I visited the exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery for a source of primary research, photography was not permitted but I managed to gather a few photographs (excuse the poor composition):
The exhibit documents a timeline of Modern art, starting with Malevich's Black rectangle appearing as you open the exhibit doors. Including contemporary works from around the world, the exhibit exposes the audience to a dramatic change in aesthetic and ideology. It is this timeline I wish to explore in my essay and practical element, comparing the juxtaposition between the end and start, identifying how the previous has influenced the contemporary.
